Placozoas are very small flattened animals, a few millimeters wide. They are multicellular and they are the simplest animals in the world. They can change their body shape becoming rounded or elongating like a wand. The placozoa are covered with flagella in the lower part, which they use to feed on phagocytosis, and in the upper part. They feed on algae, cyanobacteria and sediment.
They live in shallow marine waters where they move on the bottom or swim suspension with body movements.
Reproduction occurs mainly by splitting.
There are few species of placozoa, the most famous being Trichoplax adhaerens which has a wide spread.
