Hemichordates

Hemicordates (Hemichordata) are worms that live in the seabed. Their body is divided into three parts and they have a primitive backbone. They are deuterostomes: their embryo is similar to chordates and echinoderms. They have separate sexes and larvae, but often reproduce by budding.
They are divided into two groups:

Enteropneusta

They are worms that live immersed in sand. They have a muscular trunk for digging, a collar and an elongated body. The skin secretes mucus. The water passes through the mouth and comes out of the gills.

Pterobranchs

They are animals that secrete a coating that anchors them to the ground. They live fixed to the bottom of the sea, even at considerable depth. They filter the water with eyelashes and tentacles, feeding on plankton. Many live in colonies.
